Discover the Takayama Festival

Each year the Takayama Festival attracts thousands of visitors to play witness to some of the most colourful and vibrant festivals in Japan.

Noted as one of the three most beautiful festivals in the country, the festival takes place twice every year; once in the spring and then later in the autumn. The preparations for the festival begin, prompting the local people to begin preparing for the coming winter months.

The highlight of the festival is the eleven floats which travel through the town colourfully decorated. The motifs produced by the local skilled artisans are recognised as being some of the most stunningly decorated floats. After proceeding through the town, the floats line up, just before dusk falls. Once the sun has set, hundreds of lanterns light up the floats showcasing the spectacular colours and decorations of the festival.

With a special departure in October 2011, we are excited to invite you to this magnificent country, rich in culture and imperial grandeur.  Click here to read the full itinerary or call our sales team now to find out more.
