Sleep

What a whirlwind many of us live in. There are just not enough hours in a day. One thing I always envied about Margaret Thatcher is she could survive on just around 4 hours sleep a night…..sleep to me though isn’t essential, it just gets in the way of living!! I am a great believer that you can store sleep or catch up; I always seem to be one of those catching up. If you know you are going to have a hectic time then you keep going and it is only when you relax you realize how very tired you are … such a nuisance.

As you know I just love people so going to a trade exhibition for a week with back to back meetings is a joy and that is what I did last week in Berlin. A delight to meet so many business partners of which so many have become friends. We never lose sight of why we have an appointment and that is in our pursuit of forever looking at the excellence we can offer to customers. A week’s work has produced an exhaustive supply of further innovations we are offering and you will see these being rolled out in the next few months. I do believe that a lot of people that work hard also play hard – certainly I am attracted to these people, ah well ‘birds of a feather’ etc. I guess that is why I thought of Mrs. Thatcher after 3 to 4 hours sleep a night for 4 nights on the trot.

As if we hadn’t had enough meetings last week already we have had a week full of meetings but necessary to do. I hate a ‘meeting for meetings sake’ and so would always want to create an action plan to any meetings. This afternoon we had a research company in to discuss the findings of research they have done with some of you and please let me take this opportunity of thanking those of you that were prepared to be involved. I cannot begin to tell you how much we appreciate your support and we have learnt so much from you, and we will be the custodian of information that we can use to ensure we achieve what you want us to deliver.

One point that came across was that Bales travellers are our best advocates and ambassadors and much of our business comes from your recommendations. We thought it would be great to ask you all to ask 5 of your friends which Bales destinations they would like to go to the most. We are looking to run a fun competition whereby any Bales travellers that have friends booking will be entered into a draw and after three months a winner will be announced and will be offered £5,000 towards a Bales holiday. This of course will also apply to your friends that book their Bales holiday. You will shortly hear more about this.

In travel we are often asked where we ourselves wish to travel to. I can honestly say I am working my way through the Bales brochure, but I seriously think even if I travelled all the time I would still never personally get to all the destinations we feature, so like so many of you have to prioritise where I want to go to. Goodness it is difficult isn’t it but I think I am pulled back to do the trekking, whitewater rafting and wildlife trip to Nepal that I cancelled last year but then I do really want to go to Costa Rica. Do you find it this difficult to choose?

If you read this regularly you will know that mishaps happen to me pretty well every day. So I was so appreciative when we landed in London from Berlin after a delay (learning that they were doing a fast turn around on the flight) and that there was a very observant stewardess. Typically I was last off the plane… only to be caught up by a stewardess running after me who noticed that I had left my passport under my seat She rated one of my extra happy moments so thank you to the very pretty stewardess for making my weekend.

Goodness is that the time – need to try and get some shut eye, will catch up soon.
