The genius Inca ruins

To this day scientists, engineers and laymen are amazed at how the Inca ruins, of Machu Picchu, have survived every climate form and its aftermath. Following the nature induced landslides and flooding in Peru, causing damage all over – it is a wonder how the 500+ year old ruins remained to stand strong and undamaged.

Professionals marvel at how the ancient Inca people developed such fantastic constructions with drainage systems that are adaptable to all kinds of weather. The Inca ruin drainage systems can absorb up to 2,000mm of rainfall a year, as well as being able to manage any wet earth that may come with it. The ruins are a magnificent example of the genius and deeply technical communities that used to exist on our earth.

Similar to the amazing construction of the Pyramids in Egypt, or even the English Stonehenge in Wiltshire; it is astounding to think how the Incas constructed such weather-proof creations without the modern day advantages of technology. It is reasonable to question whether ancient construction techniques are more untouchable rather than our modern day processes? The amazing Inca ruins, Machu Picchu have remained its original magnificence and historical genius, come rain or shine. Certainly a site worth visiting!

Due to the recent flooding and landslides Machu Picchu is currently closed to the public, but is due to reopen on 1st April 2010.

I find it amazing that today, we struggle with flooding and weather conditions etc. when the ancient people of Inca had found a way of coping with the problem hundreds of years ago! They should of written a manual to be passed down to property development companies of the 21st century. If only we could cope with weather like they could, it wouldn’t have been such a catastophe with our recent heavy snow! I would love to visit the Inca ruins, the history behind it is so interesting.
