Twittering

You can call me old fashioned… but I don’t get it!! Yes I get the need for technology and the need for e-commerce, but I really do think the world has gone mad!! We have internet dating, internet friendships, friends reunited, facebook and now a new phenomenon – ‘twittering’. This is where you register to follow someone’s Twitter micro-blog and they will give you an up to date dialogue of what they are doing. Fine for some famous people you may feel you want to know more about and I hear it was critical in President Obama’s campaign – but do I really want to read that someone is stuck in traffic and 20 minutes late. I guess I make my own small contribution to the modern world because I do this blog, but this is possibly now being deemed as ‘old school’. Me, I still like that ancient phenomenon of talking to people face to face and actually enjoying hearing about what is going on when we meet – that way you don’t get the miniscule details that really are of not interest to me – (i.e. dropped a bag of flour in the supermarket.. obviously someone cares – but that is not me!!!) .

I am hearing it is not so much an age thing – just different attitude and some may be delighted to know that Bales are not only on Facebook but have also registered a Twitter account and will be active within a few days.Do not fear – you are not going to get a step by step account of what I am doing – more an opportunity to see the most up to date what is new with Bales.

So we are letting you know about Bales in a variety of ways and hope that by these various ways that we communicate that we are always top of mind for you for whatever type of Bales you want to take as a holiday.

If you are more like me and prefer telephone chats and face to face communication you can always come in and discuss your holiday with us or simply do it on the phone and get to know our fantastic staff. I know for a lot of you e-commerce is the way but all channels of communication are open to us. We welcome hearing from you….

I am delighted to discover, albeit belatedly, that Bales has entered the world of Twitter. I too was cynical to start with but have found it an interesting tool. I exercise a large dose of caution about who to follow (I’m not interested in the fact that someone I don’t know has just trodden on the cat) but Bales has now joined the honoured inner circle of those followed, taking my total to 7!!

  • I agree with Carline, if you limit who you follow then it can be quite a good little tool. I’m adding Bales as soon as I finishe typing this.

What is the secret to increase Twitter followers (more than 800)?

  • Hello Jemeno – well, that is the million dollar question… In regards to utilizing twitter as a marketing tool for business, we are currently exploring options and trialing different approaches to see what works, and what does not. Because of the nature of twitter (being a micro blogging platform), any posts (also known as tweets) disapear from most of your followers view as soon as they are published – so we are currently under the impression of trying to post regular, enticing and interactive tweets are the way to go. Presuming you are also in the Travel Industry, you should look into the Twitter Travel Directory here. Also, if you are redirecting traffic away from twitter, you should create an account at http://bit.ly/ – this service will shorten your web addresses, and also allow you to gauge how many clicks you receive from links you post on twitter. Let us know how you get on – and please feel free to follow our efforts here.
