The influence of the media

The influence of the media

In my world, when someone says ‘I have done a Mandy’ they are not referring to Peter Mandelson but something zany or scatty that they have done. I have been told it is an endearing feature but for any of you that are similar to me – you will agree that it is so frustrating to leave a trail behind you of car keys, purses, mobile phone etc. Always looking on the bright side, I think I am lucky, as for those of you that don’t have these moments of frustration, don’t get the extra happy moments when the items are found again. It is also heartening when you have such belief that more people in this world are good and not bad – I have had such help and support and honesty with my search to look for what I had misplaced.

I do know people that have stopped listening, watching or reading the news as they feel it is full of just bad press. I do, however, listen avidly to Radio 4 before and after work. If going on a train I pick up a newspaper and when at home watch news at 10 because I feel it is important to remain informed. Apologies for those that may be reading this who are part of the media world but I have to say sometimes it would be good to have a happy celebratory story …. There are lots around. Sometimes the headline news appears to be trivia compared to what is happening in the world and as the great British public generally rely on the media for their news, it would be good to see some balanced coverage about world and UK events. I know I have to be careful as I do know how powerful the media is and we, along with our external PR Company Fiona Reece, work well with many travel editors and journalists to ensure they can give you interesting stories about Bales holidays. Our aim is to get Bales Worldwide in the press every week and that will hopefully stimulate you to consider going on holiday with us.

I say this as we have such a fantastic product and high quality of service but as my wise Father said if we don’t get out there and market ourselves we become the worlds best kept secret. Oh my goodness, I am writing this and if you have come this far and are actually wondering what we do I have done a bad job! I claim that you will always have the ultimate holiday with Bales… a brave claim to make but I say this confidently as we give great attention to detail and take your holiday very seriously indeed and aim to ensure we have lived up to or exceeded your expectations. OK, I admit sometimes something happens, usually outside our control which to you may feel that we haven’t got it right, but the feedback I have from those of you that travel with us suggests we get it right most of the time.

Finally, an update of progress on my fitness; I went for a long walk with my sister in law, Nicola and our families in preparation for our climb up Mount Kilimanjaro. The fact that she did the walk ,got home, did a major spring clean and had the gourmet meal ready before I even got back to their house suggests I have a way to go!! Much as I want to rely on my mental determination – I have got to do more to achieve getting to the top!!!
