Whilst totally predictable, I think it is relevant to put in this blog how I forecast 2009 will be for many of us. I could add the wish list of how I would like it to be, but guess blogs are full of that already, ah, but that it be that easy – to wish and it was granted.!! I know that we are used to seeing sales post Christmas and in more recent years we have seen pre Christmas sales but nothing like we have seen this year – driving along the High Street post Christmas to see banners stating 75% off. Yes, maybe when you get into the shops it is for a few odd items, but nevertheless it is new to me to see this phenomenon. Being 31st December, and driving into work I couldn’t believe the queues for the supermarkets – starting so early. The shops are only closed for a day but there seems to be a real panic mentality of buying enough stocks.

Anyway – into 2009 – I do believe it is going to be a tough year for many – I guess we should reflect on what we have that is good – a country that on the whole we feel safe in, freedom and hopefully for many of us, good health.. these all have to be good for starters.

I am not a great one for making New Year Resolutions – well yes making them I can do, but seem to break them far too early. I have committed to trying to get fitter, I think if you have fitness, you have more energy and you add another dynamic to your life and it definitely helps with a feel good factor – something a lot of us will be looking for in 2009.

I really do believe that people will not stop spending money on their important priorities and have seen early signs that in the travel industry we will see a greater increase of late bookings made.

So tough the year will be – but we will get through it and the winners will be the innovative and entrepreneurial people that always see a positive opportunity and way forward.
