When I offered a bottle of champagne to everyone that responded to my last blog, I don’t think I realised what a response we may get, more expensive than I had envisaged, but well worth it and a heartfelt thanks to all of you that contacted us. You do really help me personally to understand what to do better and what we do well. We have had a lot going on recently what with the tragedy of Mumbai and the demonstrations in Bangkok causing bedlam as the airport had to be closed for several days. We did our absolute best for everyone and I am truly overwhelmed at the positive response that we have received from clients about the way we dealt with their own situations… which as you know, if you have travelled with Bales, is what you come to expect from us.
I don’t know about you, but when on trains in the UK it is amazing to hear other people on mobiles revealing quite private information to a business or a personal friend and not realising that they have an audience who have no desire to hear their conversation. It is quite outrageous really. But then they may not care. I am not whiter than white as train travel is often a good time to catch up with calls and though I believe that I am sensitive about what I say, I have to admit to be an occasional ‘committer of said crime’. So much so that a couple of weeks ago I was travelling to London and suddenly thought I was sitting toward the movement and now I am now against it ,and found that I had arrived at the London terminal and being so absorbed in my telephone conversation had also departed it without obviously realising . Yes I was late for the meeting but thanks to mobiles was able to advise!!!
I have been accused of being many things, including according to my husband, a drama queen!! He is not right of course; I am much understated and cool as a cucumber. What ever I am, I am sure that we are now living through a changing political and economic landscape and a very rapidly changing landscape at that. To my mind, we are all going into un-chartered waters and nowadays there seems to be significant economic news on a daily basis. We all have to work out our personal economic priorities. For many people, they are not yet affected by the ‘credit crunch’ and hopefully may never be directly. However, those of you who are, I still firmly believe that people want and need a holiday – and it is high priority on the list of ‘must do’s’ in 2009.
Being in the industry, I often book my holiday at the last moment but I have found that I want to look forward to my holidays and have the anticipation and for this reason I have already booked my autumn 2009 holiday – not that I don’t enjoy the life in-between but just something to know that you have in the diary that is a feel good factor.
I think relationships in business and personal life is crucial – we don’t do business with business, it is people that we do business with, and as long as we all remember that we have a better and more rewarding life because we are not just pen pushers, we make things happen and prosper. In our own ways we all make a difference.
Philosophical maybe but it is really all about common sense.
Talking about common sense it is yet another into the night blog as I am due at the gym with my supersonic fit friend first thing in the morning, so I am signing off now (another 1.30a.m touch … I should have been an owl!) and look forward to talking to you all again soon.
