24 Hour Politics

I agree with the politician who said that 2 hour media means 24 hour politics. We have access to so much news and information – frequently getting news breaking stories as they unfold. Is this a good thing? Well there are of course many benefits to us being informed but at the same time it can cause a frenzy of panic as we become shocked and consider the implications to our own lives e.g. ‘the credit crunch’, the bank failures and the bail outs by government would be prime examples. I know many intelligent and well informed people – and even they have sensed slight panic and some of their comments seem to be quite radical – ‘shall we get all our savings out and stash it at home?’ – ‘shall we up sticks and go overseas?’
- ‘ we are seeing such a sharp demise of our pension fund – shall we just spend it? ’

And so it goes on.

I am feeling optimistic- not just because that is my character but for many factors. I have just seen my husband off at the airport as he is travelling to the ABTA (The Travel Association) conference in Gran Canaria.

I would have loved to have gone but there is too much going on back at ‘the ranch’. However, I saw many of my colleagues and competitors at the check in and there was a very positive and upbeat atmosphere. I believe that in this fast pace of life that may of us live, a holiday is more important than ever and will be one of the last things for people to have to give up. Not only that, if as a company you can show how you differentiate and shine out (I hope we do that to you!) and strive to exceed all travellers expectations then word gets around and people have confidence to book their holiday with you.

In addition to that, I find that often those who are really busy all the time find that as much as they think they want to just be on a beach for a week or so – they do not switch off from work. Often to engage their mind in something else is more relaxing which is where we come in – absorbing a new culture, wildlife, scenery or history for example.

I do feel that we all need something to look forward to and a holiday is something that many of us really look forward to and treasure and can revitalise the mind and body. So in essence as long as we keep delivering excellence and never get complacent I think we will continue to be successful.
