The vibrant city of Rio exceeded all expectations. Our first stop was Corcovado Mountain. We took a jeep through Tijuca Forest and arrived at a spectacular viewpoint. From the top of the mountain, you can see the true beauty of this city – the mountains, skyscrapers, beaches, the lakes…
I thought that after the Corcovado sight nothing could impress me as much but I was proven wrong! We then took a cable car to Sugar Loaf Mountain. On a clear day the scenery from the top of the mountain is spectacular, especially the view over Christ the Redeemer at sunset.
‘Rio by Night’ was an experience into the local culture. We dined in one of the traditional Brazilian restaurants where the waiters serve a variety of meat. We then enjoyed a Samba Show where there was a great party atmosphere and lots of surprises!
Rio’s most famous white sand beaches Copacabana, Ipanema and Leblon are truly beautiful. Packed with people, volleyball and soccer courts, they are ideal for fun and relaxation.
On my last day in Rio I went to the Hippie market just off the Ipanma beach. If you cannot find anything there you won’t be able to find it anywhere! It is the best place for buying souvenirs and all sorts of goodies.
This was my first trip with Bales and I now know that I definitely made the right decision to begin a career in the travel industry!

I have always had a passion for tourism, and I furthered my career by undertaking a Tourism Management degree at Bournemouth University. After working for Bales during my placement year, I immediately returned to Operations Department with enthusiasm to develop my knowledge and expertise in the travel industry, and I have now taken a new responsibility of ticketing. Alongside my previous travelling experiences to Europe, North Africa and Middle East, working for Bales has given me an opportunity to explore different places. My recent visit to Rio de Janeiro, an amazing city and a gave me a great introduction to South America. I am now looking forward to explore the continent in more depth in the forthcoming future.
